01Context
- Build a branded live product-customization experience.
- Support multiple products, colors, and uploaded customer logos.
- Keep future products manageable without recurring app fees.
BE O Lifestyle sells reusable drinkware and offers branded products for business customers.
Its printing page needed to let customers choose a product and color, upload a logo, see that artwork immediately on the product, and submit the configuration for quotation.
Several Shopify personalization apps were tested but imposed layout restrictions, missing functionality, or additional subscription costs.
02What was in the way
- 01
Third-party app limitations
Available apps did not provide sufficient control over layout and behavior without additional paid tiers.
- 02
Live logo placement
Uploaded artwork had to appear immediately on the selected product preview.
- 03
Maintainability
The client needed to add future products without commissioning another hardcoded interface.
03Architecture
What we built, and what we deliberately left alone.
- 01
Custom-coded personalizer
The customization flow runs directly inside the Shopify storefront rather than depending on a personalization SaaS.
- 02
Dynamic product configuration
Products can be enabled through settings so the interface grows with the catalog.
- 03
Separate lead workflow
The tool supports business printing enquiries without interfering with the ordinary B2C shopping experience.

05Engineering notes
- Image upload
- Customer logo files are incorporated into the live preview and quotation workflow.
- Product settings
- Supported products are selected through configurable settings rather than source-code edits.
- Form handoff
- Configuration leads into a structured enquiry form routed to the business team.
- Localization
- The final customization interface was adapted to Dutch storefront language and brand styling.
What we took from it
- 01A custom tool can be simpler than adapting an oversized personalization app.
- 02Product customization UX needs immediate visual feedback.
- 03Merchant configurability is part of maintainability.
- 04B2B personalization flows do not always belong on ordinary PDPs.
