01Context

  • Capture made-to-measure dimensions and product options.
  • Calculate pricing dynamically from configuration choices.
  • Integrate custom configuration into the Shopify buying journey.

Vorhang Schweiz sells made-to-measure curtain and window solutions where customer dimensions are fundamental to the final product.

Pricing and configuration can depend on width, height, fabric, suspension, rail systems, tension rods, and related product-specific choices.

HeapByte developed custom Shopify logic that lets customers configure these products without forcing the merchant to maintain impossible variant combinations.

02What was in the way

  1. 01

    Continuous measurements

Width and height values cannot realistically be represented as finite Shopify variants.

  2. 02

    Product-specific logic

Different window products require different controls and pricing behavior.

  3. 03

    Customer clarity

Complex configuration needs to remain understandable enough for shoppers to complete independently.

03Architecture

What we built, and what we deliberately left alone.

  1. 01

    Custom configuration layer

Dimensions and options are collected outside Shopify's standard variant model.

  2. 02

    Pricing logic

Selected measurements and attributes drive the calculated product price.

  3. 03

    Shopify cart integration

Final configuration details carry into the commerce flow for fulfillment context.

05Engineering notes

Dimension capture
Numeric customer measurements become part of configuration and pricing state.
Conditional controls
Available configuration fields change according to product type and selected options.
Price calculation
Final price is calculated from business rules rather than a pre-generated matrix of variants.
Cart properties
Configuration details remain attached to the Shopify order for downstream processing.

What we took from it

  1. 01Continuous measurements are fundamentally different from product variants.
  2. 02Configurator UX should reflect how customers think about the physical product.
  3. 03Pricing logic benefits from separation from theme presentation.
  4. 04Long-lived custom tools need merchant-friendly configuration.
